Job Description
**Job Overview**
The Operations Manager is the right hand to the owner and the day\-to\-day engine of RC Deck Co. This person owns the path from signed contract to finished deck — keeping jobs on schedule, crews supplied, customers informed, and quality high. The role exists to free the owner to focus on sales, design, and growth, while ensuring every project runs on time, on budget, and to a standard that earns five\-star reviews.
This is a hands\-on role for someone who thrives in the field and the office. You'll be on job sites in the morning, on the phone with suppliers at lunch, and updating the schedule in the afternoon. The right person is organized, decisive, mechanically minded, and comfortable holding crews and subs accountable.
**Responsibilities**
* *Project Management*
* Own the master production schedule and sequence jobs to maximize crew utilization across the season.
*Crew and Subcontractor Management*
* Direct daily crew assignments and ensure each job site has the right people and tools.
* Hire, onboard, and train field staff; manage performance and timekeeping.
* Build and maintain relationships with subs (concrete, electrical, masonry, roofing) and hold them to schedule and quality standards.
*Materials and Procurement*
* Order lumber, composite decking, railing, fasteners, and hardware to meet job schedules.
* Manage relationships with lumberyards and Trex/TimberTech/AZEK reps to secure pricing, availability, and pro program benefits.
* Maintain a small inventory of high\-turn items; reduce trips and downtime.
*Quality Control and Safety*
* Visit active job sites regularly to inspect workmanship, safety, and cleanliness.
* Enforce a punch\-list and final\-walkthrough process so no job is "done" until it meets standard.
* Maintain OSHA compliance, jobsite safety practices, and required PPE.
*Customer Communication*
* Serve as the primary point of contact for the customer once the contract is signed.
* Send proactive updates at key milestones (kickoff, framing, inspection, completion).
* Resolve issues in the field quickly and professionally; escalate to the owner only when needed.
* Coordinate the post\-job ask: review request, yard sign placement, project photos.
*Permits, Inspections, and Documentation*
* Pull building permits and schedule township inspections.
* Maintain organized job files: contracts, change orders, receipts, photos, permits.
* Process change orders with the customer and update the job budget accordingly.
*Office and Systems*
* Maintain the CRM and job tracking system (e.g., Jobber, Buildertrend, or similar).
* Help the owner refine pricing, estimating templates, and SOPs as the company grows.
* Generate weekly operations reports: jobs in progress, upcoming starts, backlog, margin trends.
* Run weekly look\-aheads with the owner and crew leads to flag conflicts before they become problems.
* Coordinate start dates, material deliveries, inspections, and final walkthroughs.
* Track each job against budgeted hours and material costs; flag variances early.
