Program Director

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is seeking a Program Director to join our Program Management Office (PMO). The Program Director has overall responsibility for leading delivery of national, multi\-year Association initiatives, designed cross\-functionally and in collaboration with internal and external partners, to improve the lives of people living with diabetes. The Director uses best practices to manage scope, budgets, timelines, cross\-functional program teams, stakeholders, vendors, and contractual deliverables. The Program Director is also responsible for executive\-level communication and alignment, internal and partner relationships, strategy, and outcomes attainment. Reporting to Managing Director, PMO, this grant funded role supports the PMO in standardizing project management processes (with a focus on efficiency), ensuring strategic alignment and effective program delivery, and fostering collaboration across teams. The Program Director will support ADA mission\-driven success on assigned PMO initiatives and programs while promoting accountability and impact. Program Director has responsibility to support the renewal and expansion of contracts and the proposal of new ADA initiatives. As assigned, the Program Director will supervise, lead, and mentor Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and Project Coordinators. **RESPONSIBILITIES** * Provides strategic leadership for delivery of large\-scale change initiatives that improve the lives of people living with diabetes. * Leads cross\-functional Association and partner teams to implement best\-in\-class on\-time and on\-budget delivery tactics that exceed stakeholder and customer/partner expectations and specified outcomes. * Leads programs that involve multiple stakeholders and funders including external executives, ADA departments and senior leadership, volunteer leaders, field operations, members, and other constituents. * Accountability for ensuring completion of project deliverables and project success that supports contract renewals and expansion of assigned projects and projects of direct reports (if applicable). , * Supports ADA in identifying new opportunities for initiatives that align ADA’s strategic mission and revenue priorities with partner organizations. * Processes documentation and continuous process improvement for ADA’s project management initiatives. * Conducts training and coaching on project management for team members and cross\-functional colleagues. * Collaboration, negotiation, and inspiration for assigned clients to close change orders and/or program renewals. **QUALIFICATIONS** * Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred * Minimum expected years of relevant experience: 8 years in complex project and program management (multi\-year, multi\-workstream programs) * Experience leading and managing functional and matrixed teams to achieve goals * Demonstrated success managing internal and external stakeholder relationships at all levels, from team members to C\-suite executives * Experience managing program budgets greater than $1M, on\-time and on\-budget * Experience with human\-centered design for mission\-driven initiatives * Knowledge of governance structures and best practices * Success with process improvement that increased efficiency, reduced risk, and achieved goals * Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP)® preferred * Experience in providing project management training and consultation * Demonstrated proficiency in project management software (e.g. MS Project or Smartsheets) * Experience leading with a formal project management methodology, such as the PMBOK * Expertise in processes, procedures, and policies to effectively manage change and implement quality practices on projects throughout the organization **COMPETENCIES** * Ability to seek out and leverage data to make informed decisions * Drives strategy and alignment to the larger mission * Demonstrates a high level of personal accountability and holds others accountable for results with ability to manage up and across various stakeholders at various levels within the organization * Ability to work in a fast\-paced environment * Strong sense of urgency * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Ability to form and lead high\-performing teams * Critical thinking and the ability to manage complex projects and programs * Exceptional problem\-solving skills * Strong change management skills * Drives collaboration and cooperation to deliver results * Strong planning, organization, and attention to detail * Good negotiation skills * Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work independently to manage multiple concurrent projects **WHY WORK HERE** The American Diabetes Association (ADA) offers a rewarding career working for one of the premier voluntary health organizations in the world supporting people with type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes.
