Company Overview **Mertal Electrical Inc.** is a U.S.\-based electrical products company focused on North American power distribution products, including meter sockets, load centers, service equipment, breaker enclosures, disconnect switches, and related electrical products. We are currently expanding our meter socket product line in the U.S. market and are looking for an experienced Utility Approval / APL Consultant to support product approvals with electric utilities, utility standards groups, and approved product list processes. Position Summary We are seeking an experienced **Meter Socket Utility Approval / APL Consultant** to help support the approval process for meter sockets and related service equipment with U.S. electric utilities. The ideal candidate should have direct experience with utility metering standards, approved product lists, meter socket specifications, utility submittal packages, and communication with utility engineering or standards departments. This is a contract or project\-based role and may be performed remotely. Responsibilities * Support utility approval and APL submission processes for meter sockets and related metering equipment. * Review utility requirements for meter sockets, service equipment, CT cabinets, and related products. * Help identify target utilities and their approval requirements, including technical standards, drawings, forms, and submittal procedures. * Prepare or review utility submittal packages, including product datasheets, drawings, UL information, specifications, photos, test reports, installation instructions, and comparison documents. * Communicate with utility standards departments, metering departments, engineering teams, or approval contacts when needed. * Help evaluate product gaps against utility requirements, EUSERC requirements, MEG requirements, and regional utility standards. * Provide guidance on meter socket designs, including ring/ringless, bypass type, jaw configuration, hub opening, enclosure requirements, lugs, grounding, sealing provisions, and labeling requirements. * Support cross\-reference analysis against existing approved products from major brands such as Milbank, Eaton, Siemens, Square D, Durham, or Midwest Electric. * Advise on priority utilities and recommended approval strategy for entering the U.S. meter socket market. * Help create a utility approval roadmap by state, utility, product type, and SKU priority. * Support follow\-up with utilities after submissions and help resolve technical questions or required product modifications. Requirements * Experience with U.S. electric utility product approvals, approved product lists, metering standards, or utility engineering processes. * Strong knowledge of meter sockets, metering equipment, service equipment, or electrical distribution products. * Familiarity with products such as residential meter sockets, commercial meter sockets, meter\-main equipment, CT cabinets, transformer\-rated meter sockets, or service disconnect equipment. * Understanding of utility approval processes, utility standards departments, or meter engineering departments. * Ability to review technical drawings, product specifications, datasheets, and test documentation. * Knowledge of UL\-listed electrical products is preferred. * Familiarity with UL 414 meter socket requirements is strongly preferred. * Experience with EUSERC, MEG, or major utility service guides is a strong plus. * Ability to communicate professionally with utility contacts, manufacturers, engineers, and sales teams. * Strong written communication skills and ability to prepare clear approval documentation. Preferred Background Candidates with any of the following backgrounds are strongly preferred: * Former utility standards engineer * Former utility metering engineer * Former meter shop / meter department manager * Former product engineer from a meter socket or service equipment manufacturer * Experience with Milbank, Eaton, Siemens, Square D, Durham, Midwest Electric, Erickson, or similar companies * Experience working with utility approved product lists * Experience submitting or reviewing meter socket products for utility approval * Experience with EUSERC or utility service equipment requirements * Experience with electrical distributors, manufacturers’ representatives, or utility sales channels Target Utilities / Markets Experience with any of the following utilities or regions is a plus: * Oncor * CenterPoint Energy * AEP Texas * Entergy * FPL * Duke Energy * Georgia Power * Ameren * ComEd * PG\&E * SCE * SDG\&E * LADWP * Utility approval processes in Texas, California, Florida, Midwest, or Southeast markets Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is someone who understands how electric utilities evaluate and approve meter socket products. This person should be able to help us identify the right utility contacts, prepare professional approval packages, understand technical requirements, and guide product modifications needed for approval. We are looking for practical, hands\-on experience — not just general electrical engineering knowledge. Example Projects The consultant may help with projects such as: * Building a target utility approval list for meter socket products * Reviewing utility meter socket requirements by state or utility * Preparing APL submission packages * Comparing Mertal meter socket designs against approved Milbank / Eaton / Siemens models * Advising on SKU priorities for 125A, 200A, and 320A meter sockets * Supporting approval strategy for ringless, ring\-type, lever bypass, horn bypass, overhead, underground, and 4\-jaw / 5\-jaw designs * Helping communicate with utility standards departments * Identifying product changes required for approval Compensation Compensation will depend on experience and project scope.
