**Virtual Learning Special Education Teacher – Sonnenberg Schools** **Reports to:** Director of Academics and Instruction **Status:** Exempt/Salaried, Full\-Time (10\-month position, paid out across 12 months) **Schedule:** Four\-day school week with flex time on most Fridays; this is a **virtual teaching position** based from home, with professional development days preferably held in person, along with occasional in\-person sessions and evening events. **Our Mission** Our mission at Sonnenberg Schools is to provide an educational enviornment that is loving, safe, and supportive, focused on preparing students with unique learning needs academically, socially, and emotionally for their future lives of success. **About Sonnenberg Schools** Sonnenberg Schools are rooted in collaboration, compassion, integrity, and excellence. We are a private, dual\-campus, K\-12 learning community where every student is known, valued, and supported. With small class sizes (capped at 16 students) and the support of a dedicated Educational Assistant in each classroom, our lead teachers are empowered to provide individualized instruction that truly makes a difference. **Position Overview** This position works cooperatively with leadership of the school, Board of Directors, school staff, parents and students to help the school accomplish its mission to provide an educational environment that is loving, safe, and supportive, focused on preparing students academically, socially, and emotionally for their future lives of success. The teacher will conduct student instruction, online platform monitoring, behavior modification, and nurturing of students. Candidates should have a passion for modeling positive contributions to the school culture through high expectations, professional collaboration, strong relationships with students and families, and a spirit of coachability. **Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:** **School Operations** * Follow research\-based philosophy and principles, plan, prepare and teach the prescribed curriculum for the grade(s) and/or subject areas(s) he or she is teaching. * Delivers instruction and assistance to students through a virtual classroom environment. * Provides clear expectations to students and parents regarding class objectives, weekly assignments, grading rubrics and grading scale. * Assesses student’s abilities as related to educational goals, objectives and outcomes. * Employs a wide variety of teaching methods designed to create opportunities for deep understanding and differentiated instruction for all levels of ability within a class. * Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide whole and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. * Uses summative and formative assessments to determine and provide differentiated instruction for students. * Develops and creates new engaging material for student’s learning in a virtual learning environment, including opportunities for peer collaboration and hands on learning. * Provides a learning environment that stimulates creativity and individuality to support student success and provides opportunities for project based learning. * Manages behavior of learners in virtual instruction setting to ensure the environment is conducive to the learning process. * Proactively monitors the progress and learning of students through online platforms and systems and assists students with working towards mastery of content. * Plans and manages allotted learning time effectively to maximize student achievement. * Accurately grades work and provides feedback to students in a timely manner. * Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports, and communicates with parents on individual student’s progress. * Holds live virtual weekly office hours for a minimum of 2 hours per week. * Records student attendance to be used for state attendance reporting. * Actively participates in IEP meetings as needed. * Provides strong parent communication and support. * Work cooperatively and interact positively with students, parents, staff and community. * High presence and availability to all students, faculty and parents. **Administrative** * Participate and attend faculty meetings. * Provide leadership in ensuring a positive and co\-operative culture and climate exists within the program. * Prepare for and attend teacher conferences as scheduled, and as needed for individual students. **Experience and Requirements** * Must believe in research based teaching philosophy and principles and extend those to students and families. * Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required. * Experience and general knowledge of different online platforms including, but not limited to, Google Classroom, Zoom, IXL, Google Meet, and NearPod. * Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in a professional manner with a diverse population of children, youth and adults. * Possess the ability to establish a rapport with youth, parents and other staff, while maintaining appropriate boundaries. * Experience working in a school environment, including general knowledge of issues facing trauma and autism, is desired. * Excellent communication skills. * Ability to effectively collaborate with other disciplines in problem solving. * Ability to communicate and work in multiple settings and environments. * Has a growth mindset and coachable spirit. **Working Conditions** * Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, depending on work tasks. * Work will be performed in a home environment. * Clear need to understand and lead efforts in child online safety. **Compensation \& Benefits** * Competitive salary commensurate with experience and credentials * Optional health, dental, and vision insurance (Sonnenberg Schools covers 60% of premiums) * Optional IRA retirement plan with a 3% employer match * Paid time off and holiday breaks * Four\-day school week * A collaborative and supportive teaching environment **Sonnenberg Schools is an equal opportunity employer.
