Job Description
**Public\-Facing Executive \| Hours of Service Subject\-Matter Expert \| Startup Equity Opportunity**
**IMPORTANT — PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING**
This is an early\-stage startup opportunity and **does not currently provide a cash salary**.
HOSoptima is a bootstrapped technology startup. We are seeking an exceptional transportation professional who understands that joining at this stage means helping build enterprise value before traditional executive compensation begins.
The selected executive will receive an **executive\-level equity package**, subject to definitive agreements, vesting, Board approval, applicable securities laws, and the terms of HOSoptima's equity plan. We anticipate transitioning the position to cash compensation plus equity when the Company reaches an appropriate financing or revenue milestone.
If you require immediate salary income from this position, this opportunity is not the right fit at this stage.
If, however, you have already built a successful career in transportation and want an opportunity to help build something significant from the ground up, we would like to speak with you.
About Us...
HOSoptima is building a technology company focused specifically on one of the trucking industry's most persistent challenges: Hours of Service compliance.
We believe the industry has become very good at recording HOS data without fully solving the problems that surround that data.
ELDs record activity. Fleets receive information. Safety departments review violations. Drivers receive training. Insurers evaluate risk.
But significant opportunities remain to connect compliance intelligence, driver education, fleet risk management, safety performance, and insurance into a more unified system.
That is the opportunity HOSoptima is pursuing.
We have bootstrapped development of our software and assembled a multidisciplinary team, including a development organization of approximately ten people and executives and advisors spanning transportation, technology, insurance, government relations, and business strategy.
Our ambitions are substantially larger than building another trucking application.
Our long\-term vision is to develop HOSoptima into an enterprise transportation technology and data company positioned at the intersection of:
Hours of Service compliance;
fleet safety and risk management;
driver education and certification;
ELD and telematics data;
commercial transportation insurance;
AI\-powered compliance intelligence; and
enterprise fleet operations.
We are now looking for the transportation leader who can help us represent that vision to the industry.
THE ROLE
We are seeking an Executive HOS \& Transportation Safety Leader who can become one of the primary public faces of HOSoptima.
This is not simply an advisory position.
This individual would operate as a trusted extension of the Founder/CEO on transportation\-industry matters and help translate our technology and strategy into language that drivers, safety directors, fleet executives, insurers, regulators, media professionals, and industry organizations understand and respect.
When someone asks:
“Does HOSoptima actually understand Hours of Service and trucking?”
The selected executive should be comfortable representing HOSoptima publicly and professionally.
Responsibilities may include:
* Serving as a senior HOS subject\-matter expert for the Company.
* Advising the Founder/CEO and executive team on HOS rules, driver realities, fleet operations, safety and compliance.
* Reviewing HOSoptima products, training programs and educational materials for real\-world accuracy and relevance.
* Helping shape HOSoptima's HOS methodology and certification standards.
* Participating in customer and fleet presentations.
* Speaking with prospective insurance partners about fleet safety and compliance.
* Helping establish relationships with fleets, safety organizations, industry associations and other transportation stakeholders.
* Hosting or co\-hosting a HOSoptima podcast.
* Appearing as a guest on trucking, logistics, safety and transportation podcasts.
* Participating in webinars, interviews, panels and industry events.
* Creating educational HOS content with the Company's marketing and product teams.
* Helping develop thought\-leadership content addressing difficult or misunderstood HOS issues.
* Supporting pilot programs and early enterprise customer relationships.
* Providing industry credibility during strategic partnership discussions.
* Helping HOSoptima identify opportunities that the technology team may not see from behind a computer screen.
We do not want someone who waits to be told what to do.
We want someone who sees an opportunity, brings it to the executive team and helps execute it.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Hours of Service knowledge is **not optional**.
An impressive title without deep HOS knowledge is not sufficient for this position.
The ideal candidate will have substantial first\-hand commercial transportation experience, preferably including one or more of the following:
* 15\+ years of professional commercial driving experience;
* 10\+ years in fleet safety, HOS training, compliance, driver management or transportation operations;
* Safety Director, Director of Compliance, Fleet Manager, Transportation Executive, Driver Trainer, DOT/FMCSA compliance professional or comparable leadership experience;
* extensive experience teaching or explaining Hours of Service regulations;
* deep familiarity with ELDs and real\-world driver compliance;
* experience interacting with DOT/FMCSA enforcement, audits or investigations;
* experience with commercial transportation insurance or risk management;
* established relationships within trucking, logistics, fleet safety, insurance or transportation associations.
Exceptional candidates with a different combination of substantial HOS and transportation experience are encouraged to apply.
You should be comfortable teaching hours of service.
We are looking for someone who can do more than quote regulations.
You should be able to sit across from:
a new driver,
a 25\-year owner\-operator,
a safety director,
a fleet CEO,
an insurance underwriter, or
a technology engineer
and explain the same HOS issue differently to each audience without losing accuracy.
We will evaluate HOS knowledge during the interview process.
Candidates should be prepared to discuss practical HOS scenarios and explain complicated rules in plain English.
THE TYPE OF LEADER WE WANT
We value experience, credibility and judgment.
This opportunity may be particularly attractive to an accomplished transportation professional who has reached a point in their career where building something meaningful is as important as collecting another title.
We are looking for someone who wants to put years of industry knowledge to work helping create something that could materially improve transportation safety.
You should be entrepreneurial, comfortable with ambiguity and willing to challenge the Founder/CEO and other executives when your experience tells you there is a better approach.
We are not looking for a spokesperson who simply repeats company talking points.
We are looking for an industry leader whose expertise can help create those talking points.
**COMPENSATION AND STARTUP ECONOMICS**
HOSoptima is currently pre\-revenue and bootstrapped.
**There is no current cash salary for this position.**
We want to be completely transparent about that before anyone invests time in the interview process.
The successful candidate will instead be considered for a meaningful executive\-level equity package designed to align long\-term interests with the growth of HOSoptima.
Equity would be documented through formal agreements and would generally be subject to vesting, continued service, Board approval and applicable Company equity plans.
Our intention is that, upon achievement of an agreed financing and/or revenue milestone, the role would transition to a conventional executive compensation structure that may include:
* Executive salary;
* continued equity participation;
* performance incentives;
* benefits; and
* other executive compensation approved by the Company.
Specific compensation, equity percentage, vesting, title, responsibilities and conversion to paid employment will be negotiated with the selected candidate and documented formally.
Equity is not presented as guaranteed future value. Joining an early\-stage company involves substantial risk, including the possibility that the equity ultimately has no value.
Candidates should evaluate that risk carefully.
**WHY CONSIDER HOSOPTIMA?**
This is an opportunity to potentially become an early executive in a technology company being built specifically around an industry you already understand.
You would not be coming in after everything has already been decided.
You would have the opportunity to influence:
the product,
the HOS strategy,
the educational platform,
the certification model,
the insurance strategy,
industry partnerships,
public messaging, and
the Company's long\-term transportation safety vision.
We are assembling an executive team whose incentives are aligned through meaningful ownership in what we are collectively working to build.
Our goal is to create a high\-growth technology company with national relevance in transportation compliance and safety.
There are no guarantees in a startup.
There is, however, an opportunity to help build the company rather than simply work for it.
**BEFORE APPLYING**
Please apply only if all of the following are true:
You have substantial, demonstrable Hours of Service expertise.
You understand that **this position does not currently provide cash compensation**.
You are comfortable considering equity\-based compensation during the Company's pre\-funding stage.
You have sufficient availability to make a meaningful contribution.
You are comfortable speaking publicly and potentially appearing on podcasts, webinars, interviews and industry events.
You are interested in building—not simply advising from the sidelines.
Pay: $40\.00 \- $80\.00 per hour
Benefits:
* Flexible schedule
