ASL Video Interpreter — Independent Sub\-Contractor **Position Type:** Subcontracting Opportunity / Independent Sub\-Contractor **Service:** Video Remote Interpretation (VRI) **Language:** American Sign Language (ASL) **Compensation:** **$40\-$50 per hour** Position Overview We are seeking **qualified and RID\-certified ASL interpreters** to provide professional **Video Remote Interpretation (VRI)** services on a subcontracting basis. The interpreter will facilitate clear, accurate, and confidential communication between Deaf or Hard\-of\-Hearing individuals and hearing participants through a secure video platform. This is a **subcontracting opportunity**, not a traditional employee position. Responsibilities * Provide accurate, impartial, and professional ASL interpretation through video. * Facilitate communication between ASL users and hearing individuals. * Maintain confidentiality and follow professional interpreting standards and ethics. * Accurately convey the meaning, tone, and intent of communications. * Be punctual and prepared for scheduled assignments. * Maintain a professional environment appropriate for confidential video interpretation. * Maintain reliable equipment and high\-speed internet suitable for VRI services. Required Qualifications * **Current RID certification is required.** * Fluency in **American Sign Language (ASL) and English**. * Professional ASL interpreting experience. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills. * Reliable high\-speed internet and appropriate video/audio equipment. * Ability to work independently as an independent contractor. * Commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics. Onboarding Requirements All selected candidates must successfully complete our **onboarding process before providing interpreting services**. The onboarding process may include: * Completion of required onboarding documentation. * **Interpreter assessment/evaluation.** * Verification of qualifications and professional experience. * **A copy of the candidate's current RID certification must be submitted for verification.** * Completion of any required training or orientation. * Approval by the company before accepting VRI assignments. **Completion of the onboarding process and successful assessment are required before an interpreter can begin accepting assignments.** Compensation **$40\-$50 per hour** for completed interpreting services, subject to the terms of the independent contractor/subcontractor agreement. Independent Contractor Status This is a **subcontracting/independent contractor opportunity** and is not an offer of employment. The interpreter is responsible for their own taxes, insurance, professional credentials, licenses, and other obligations applicable to independent contractors.
