Job Description
This is a remote position.
**Sales Engineer**
**Company Summary:**
Gotcha Security is a locally owned and operated security company that installs and services surveillance systems, access control, vehicle gates, fire alarms and intrusion alarms. We are a small and growing company, with a focus on quality and customer service. We value our employees, understand they are a key part of our success, and treat them right.
**Position Summary:**
This role owns the estimate from site visit to signed proposal. You'll create service estimates, design camera and access control systems, coordinate with fire alarm designers, perform material takeoffs, and build accurate, client\-ready proposals. Every proposal you send represents Gotcha to the client, and the install team builds from your design, so accuracy is critical. Beyond producing estimates, you'll own the estimating process itself and continuously look for ways to make it faster, more accurate, and more consistent.
This can be a work from home position (95%/5%) for the right candidate, as in you do not report to an office everyday. Occasional office visits might be needed. This position will require site visits.
\*\*\*This position requires significant experience in working with security products as an installer, estimator, or sales engineer. This is not an entry\-level role.\*\*\*
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Sales Engineering
* Own estimates from start to finish: review the request, gather what's needed, research what you don't know, and deliver a complete, accurate proposal without needing to be walked through it.
* Build every scope for the specific project in front of you. Templates are a starting point, but the equipment, scope language, and project type must match the actual job.
* Perform accurate material and conduit/wire takeoffs from drawings using tools such as BlueBeam, Visio and AI
* Verify every line item before submittal: correct part numbers, specs, colors, quantities, and supporting components (storage, power, mounting, licensing).
* Specify products according to Gotcha's equipment standards and approved manufacturer lines.
* Read and act on all communication, including emails you're CC'd on. When a commitment has been made to a client, make sure it's reflected in the proposal or change order.
* Assist the sales team with site surveys and client meetings to identify technical or project challenges that affect cost, schedule, or expectations.
* Document special conditions such as PPE, scheduling requirements, and scope provided by others so resources are in place and the project protects Gotcha's margin.
* Evaluate bid documents and develop a submittal strategy that keeps Gotcha's expected profit.
* Work with vendors so all costs are known before an estimate goes out.
* Work with the admin team to keep parts and pricing current in our quoting software.
* Create project designs so clients can approve device placement and the install team has a clear installation guide.
* Revise designs and estimates with sales and the client as needed.
Attend manufacturer trainings and webinars to stay current on products and maintain our manufacturer relationships.
*
**Process Improvement**
* Continuously evaluate and improve Gotcha's estimating process: templates, checklists, parts databases, takeoff methods, and proposal workflow.
* Research new tools, software, and integrations that improve speed and accuracy, and bring recommendations with a clear case for cost and benefit.
* Use AI tools (such as ChatGPT or Claude) in day\-to\-day work, for example scope drafting, spec sheet research, bid document review, and proposal QA, while personally verifying everything that goes to a client.
* Track estimate accuracy against actual job costs and use the results to refine pricing, labor assumptions, and standards.
Document improvements so the process works for whoever touches it next
*
### **Requirements**
**What We're Looking For**
* **Attention to detail:** You proofread your own work and catch your own errors. Client\-facing documents leave your desk free of typos, placeholder text, and leftover template language.
* **Follows through on instructions:** You read the whole email, track what's been promised, and close the loop.
* **Product knowledge:** You understand how CCTV, access control, gates, intrusion, and/or fire alarm products work, how they're installed, and how local codes affect them. You know the difference between a UPS and a PDU without looking it up.
* **Independent problem solving:** When you hit something you don't know, you research it first (spec sheets, manufacturer support, drawings) and come with a proposed answer when you do need input.
* **Tool proficiency:** Comfortable with takeoff and design software, and willing to learn ours (D\-Tools SI, ConnectWise, BlueBeam).
* **Sense of urgency:** You make timely decisions without sacrificing accuracy.
* **Planning and organizing:** You prioritize work, manage your own time, and set realistic plans.
* **Communication:** You write clearly, listen, ask clarifying questions, and present well to clients.
* **Documentation:** You keep project notes, client communications, and change orders updated so the team can track the job.
* **Availability:** Able to work extended hours when deadlines require.
* **Continuous improvement mindset:** You're not satisfied with "the way we've always done it." You spot inefficiencies, research better options, and take ownership of making changes stick.
* **Tech\-forward:** You pick up new software quickly and are already using, or eager to use, AI tools to work smarter.
**Preferred Qualifications**
* Experience with D\-Tools SI, Visio, BlueBeam, HubSpot and/or ConnectWise
* Manufacturer certifications (access control, VMS, fire alarm, etc.)
* Experience estimating multifamily and commercial projects
* Hands\-on experience using AI tools in a professional workflow
Experience building or improving templates, checklists, or estimating standards
