Social Media Specialist
===========================
Location: Remote, preferably based in Illinois, Missouri, Mississippi, or Arkansas
Travel: Frequent travel to campus locations required, at least twice per quarter
Department: Marketing
Role: Associate-level, minimum 2 years of professional experience in social media management required
Reports to: Director of Content \& Social Marketing
About the Role
------------------
Midwest Technical Institute (MTI) and Delta Technical College (DTC) are looking for a creative, organized, and social-media-obsessed professional to manage and grow our social media presence across multiple platforms and campus locations.
This role is responsible for the day-to-day management of our Facebook and Instagram accounts, including creating and publishing engaging content that highlights student experiences, campus culture, program offerings, graduate success stories, and the opportunities available through career-focused education.
This role is not only responsible for content creation, but also scheduling and planning, daily community engagement, analyzing engagement metrics, and coordinating with our campus teams to enhance brand awareness for MTI, DTC, and MTI Online.
From celebrating student achievements to highlighting hands-on training and connecting with prospective students, you'll help show the next generation what a future in career education can look like.
We’re looking for someone who truly enjoys social media content creation and management, specifically Facebook and Instagram. The right person for this role can work efficiently in a remote setting but also enjoys a high-level of collaboration and communication with team members across various locations.
So, if you're passionate about social media, enjoy connecting with people, and can balance creativity with organization and attention to detail, we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Do
------------------
### Social Media Management \& Publishing
- Actively manage and maintain three Instagram accounts: MTI, DTC, and MTI Online.
- Manage seven Facebook accounts, soon-to-include additional new campus pages, representing our individual campus locations and MTI Online.
- Develop, schedule, and publish engaging content that reflects each brand's voice, audience, and marketing priorities.
- Prioritize Facebook and Instagram content while providing posting support for LinkedIn and YouTube as needed.
- Maintain a consistent publishing schedule across accounts, ensuring content is timely, relevant, and tailored to each platform.
- Adapt content for different platforms and audiences rather than simply duplicating posts across every account.
- Maintain a detailed social media content calendar to coordinate campus events, student highlights, holidays, and all social media requests.
- Occasionally publish urgent announcements outside normal assigned hours, such as weather-related campus closures. These are minimal but may be necessary in certain circumstances to ensure we are communicating to our students, employees, and the public via our social media channels.
### Content Coordination \& Storytelling
- Collaborate with campus representatives, instructors, admissions teams, and the Marketing Department to gather photos, videos, student stories, testimonials, and other content.
- Proactively identify opportunities to showcase hands-on training, classroom experiences, campus activities, graduations, community involvement, and graduate achievements.
- Write compelling captions, headlines, and calls to action that reflect the MTI and DTC brand voices.
- Coordinate with the TikTok Content Creator and other marketing team members to repurpose appropriate content across platforms.
- Help ensure each campus has a consistent flow of fresh, authentic content that highlights its unique programs, people, and community.
- Stay current on social media trends, platform updates, content formats, and best practices.
### Community Management \& Brand Representation
- Monitor comments, messages, and audience interactions across assigned accounts.
- Respond to comments and direct messages in a timely, helpful, and professional manner.
- Serve as an approachable, informative brand representative by answering general questions and directing prospective students to the appropriate campus or team member.
- Recognize when questions or concerns should be escalated to campus leadership, Admissions, or other departments.
- Follow established brand guidelines, institutional policies, and applicable regulatory and compliance requirements when creating content and interacting with the public.
- Help maintain a positive online community while escalating sensitive issues, complaints, and potential reputational concerns appropriately.
### Performance Monitoring \& Optimization
- Monitor account performance, including reach, engagement, audience growth, video views, link clicks, and other relevant metrics.
- Identify successful content formats and opportunities to improve engagement and reach.
- Provide regular performance updates and recommendations to the Marketing Department.
- Use performance insights to refine content planning and improve results over time.
- Support social media campaigns that advance brand awareness, prospective student engagement, campus visibility, and enrollment marketing goals.
### Collaboration \& Travel
- Build strong working relationships with campus team members to gather content and identify local storytelling opportunities.
- Travel to MTI and DTC campus locations to capture content, coordinate with campus staff, and support social media initiatives at least twice per quarter on average.
- Plan travel strategically to maximize content collection, campus collaboration, and the development of a reusable content library.
- Participate in marketing meetings, campaign planning, and other collaborative projects as needed.
What We're Looking For
--------------------------
- Minimum 2 years of experience managing multiple social media accounts for a business, organization, or brand.
- Extremely high degree of attention to detail and well-established organizational habits and processes.
- Strong understanding of Facebook and Instagram, including publishing tools, content formats, engagement practices, and platform best practices.
- Basic photography, graphic design, and short-form video editing skills.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Ability to adapt tone and messaging to different audiences, platforms, brands, and campus communities.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines simultaneously.
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a remote environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with teams across multiple locations.
- Sound judgment when responding to public inquiries and handling sensitive or confidential information.
- Familiarity with social media analytics and performance reporting.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to campus locations.
Preferred Qualifications
----------------------------
- Experience managing multiple social media accounts across different locations or brands.
- Experience in higher education, career education, workforce development, or a multi-location organization.
- Familiarity with social media management platforms and scheduling tools.
- Experience using tools such as Canva, Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite, or other social media analytics dashboards.
- Experience supporting paid social campaigns or collaborating with a digital advertising team.
- Residence in or near one of our primary markets: Illinois, Missouri, Mississippi, or Arkansas.
What Success Looks Like
---------------------------
- Consistent, high-quality publishing across all assigned Facebook and Instagram accounts.
- Engaging content that reflects the unique personality of each brand, campus, and publishing platform.
- Strong audience engagement, organic reach, and community interaction.
- Timely, helpful responses to comments and direct messages.
- Strong collaboration with campus teams to maintain a reliable pipeline of authentic content.
- Improved social media performance informed by data, testing, and ongoing optimization.
- Consistent adherence to brand standards, institutional policies, and compliance requirements.
- Meaningful contributions to MTI and DTC's broader brand awareness and enrollment marketing objectives.
Compensation \& Benefits
- Salary Range: $55,000–$65,000 annually, based on experience.
- Health, dental, \& vision insurance
- Retirement plan
- Paid time off
- Additional company benefits as offered
