Job Description
Title: WordPress Developer: Landing PagesTesting
Location: Remote
Type: Contract (freelance). 3-month initial term, renewable.
Pay Range: $40-45 per hour
Most meat in this country is raised far from the people eating it, by systems designed so nobody asks too many questions. Walden exists because we think the questions are worth asking - and good answers should be available to anyone willing to look.
We deliver 100% grass-fed, pasture-raised meat to 23,000+ member families across New England and New York. Every cut is traceable to one of over 35 named farms on the East Coast. The farmers are paid 3x above commodity prices. The animals live on pasture as long as seasons allow - no antibiotics, no hormones, no feedlots. We send our beef to an independent lab in Massachusetts and publish how nutrient-rich it is compared to grocery store meat. The output is delicious meat that members love.
We're a Certified B Corp and a small but mighty team. The work is demanding, the standards are high, and the people here chose it because they'd rather build something honest and enduring than something that just looks good on a label.
Walden is seeking a hands-on freelance WordPress developer to build the landing pages behind our creator programs and paid campaigns, and to run the A/B tests that make them convert better.
What You'll Do
Our Marketing Director of Acquisition decides what to test and why. You make it real: fast, clean, on brand, and tracked properly so the results can be trusted. This is a hands-on build role. If you like seeing your work go live within days and watching the numbers move, you'll enjoy it.
- Turn briefs, and sometimes AI-generated drafts, into responsive, accessible, on-brand pages using custom HTML and CSS where our theme and page builder fall short.
- Collaborate on A/B test variants from the Director of Acquisition's test plans, without slowing pages down or causing content to flicker on load.
- Build and maintain a small library of reusable page sections that marketing can rearrange and edit on their own.
- Connect the dots between rough wireframes and finished pages, making smart visual decisions where our design library falls short.
- Tag every page you ship correctly: Mixpanel and GA4 events, ad pixels, UTM parameters, and promo codes that carry through to checkout.
- QA every page across mobile and desktop browsers before it goes live.
- Keep a running log of what we tested and what won, written so it doesn't depend on WordPress.
How we work together
- Every request comes from the Director of Acquisition with a written brief.
- Turnaround targets: a net-new page within about a week, a test variant within 2 business days
- You build and test on staging. Our Systems team approves new plugins and production changes outside the agreed list.
- Walden owns all code, templates and documentation you create.
What You'll Bring
=====================
Non-negotiables
- Solid HTML and CSS, including responsive layouts.
- Hands-on WordPress experience: block patterns, custom fields, and working within a theme and page builder.
- Working knowledge of GA4 and analytics tagging.
- A portfolio, class projects, or personal sites that show your HTML/CSS work. Recent graduates are welcome if your portfolio shows the skills above.
- Comfort using AI tools, and the judgment to check and fix what they produce.
- Pride in finished work. You care that a page loads fast, looks right on a small phone, and fires every event it should.
- Speed without sloppiness. You can manage several page requests at once and say early when a deadline is at risk.
Bonus points
- Experience with Google Tag Manager and Mixpanel.
- A sharp eye for design detail and for staying consistent with an established brand.
- You've built or run A/B tests on landing pages.
- You care where your food comes from and would like to help more people eat meat from farms they can name.
You don't need to check every box. Nobody here did. What matters is whether you do thoughtful work, tell the truth when it's easier not to, and care enough about the details to get them right when no one's watching.
What We Offer
=================
- Remote work.
- A 3-month initial project, paid hourly against an agreed estimate, with more work available for the right fit.
- A direct line to the Director of Acquisition, written briefs, and clear turnaround targets.
- Work that goes live within days, on a site where scaled paid traffic makes the results measurable.
When You Join Walden...
===========================
The work you'll do is in support of Walden's mission. We focus on sourcing meat from East Coast farms who do it right, delivering it to families who care, and holding ourselves to standards most companies would find inconvenient. We sweat the details because our members notice.
We need people who'd rather get it right than get it done fast. Who can handle the truth that regenerative agriculture is hard, the margins are real, and the shortcuts don't exist here. If that sounds like more fun than it sounds like work, we should talk.
We're proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We don't just tolerate differences in race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, and Veteran status - we thrive on them.
