Schedule and compensation
Base schedule: 15 hours per week, Monday–Thursday, 8:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m. Eastern Time. Friday off. There is no scheduled unpaid meal break during this 3-hour, 45-minute shift.
Pay range: $15–$20 per hour. The position starts at $15 per hour for 15 hours weekly. Increased pay, hours, and responsibility may become available based on performance, workload, and firm needs; increases are not automatic.

Candidates in Allegheny County and the greater Pittsburgh area are preferred, but applicants elsewhere in the three eligible states are welcome. No on-site work is required.
About BrownWhitt Law
We are a small, growing U.S. law firm serving clients in business, bankruptcy, contract, and related matters. We use established systems, templates, and written procedures to keep client service organized and consistent.
We are looking for a reliable, thoughtful Legal Assistant who communicates clearly, follows through, and knows when to ask questions. Prior legal experience is helpful, but sound judgment, accuracy, and willingness to learn matter just as much.
What you will do
- Respond to prospective clients during scheduled hours, conduct structured intake interviews, and send approved follow-up messages.
- Collect party information, conduct prescribed conflict searches in CaseFox, document results, and refer potential matches to the attorney.
- Maintain the intake queue, request missing documents, and keep Google Drive files and CaseFox records organized and current.
- Coordinate consultations, calendar invitations, reminders, and attorney-confirmed deadlines.
- Prepare call summaries and internal case-assessment memo drafts using firm templates and approved AI tools and prompts. Check drafts against source information and submit them for attorney review; legal judgments and final decisions remain with the attorney.
- Flag urgent dates, sensitive client issues, and matters requiring attorney attention; document follow-ups and coverage handoffs.
- As capacity allows, proofread and format documents, organize exhibits, and complete preparation checklists for attorney filing. Court-system access and final submission are handled by the attorney.
- Provide a brief daily plan and end-of-shift update within scheduled hours.
What you bring
- Clear spoken and written English and a professional, empathetic phone manner.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and dependable follow-through.
- Good judgment with confidential information and sensitive conversations.
- Ability to follow procedures, use templates, take feedback, and ask for clarification.
- Comfort learning software and using AI responsibly within firm-approved workflows.
- Reliable internet, a private workspace for confidential calls, and availability for the stated schedule.
Legal or professional-services support experience and familiarity with Google Workspace or CaseFox are helpful, not required. We value people who can think clearly and work with care without becoming robotic about the process.
How the role works
Initial priorities are intake, follow-ups, file organization, and scheduling. Work is assigned to fit the 15-hour base. The firm coordinates coverage outside your scheduled shift; you are not expected to remain on call after hours or on Fridays. The assistant does not independently provide legal advice, determine case viability, set fees, or make legal strategy or deadline decisions. AI-generated work remains a draft subject to attorney review and approval.
Growth and review
We will review progress during onboarding and at approximately 30, 60, and 90 days. Strong performance may lead to higher compensation within the posted range, additional hours, and greater responsibility as firm needs develop.
How to apply
Apply through Indeed with your resume and a brief note describing your relevant experience and confirming availability for the stated schedule. Please indicate your city or region; a street address is not needed in your note.
We expect to accept applications for approximately three days and may close the posting earlier if we receive approximately 500 applications. Please apply promptly. All applications received before closure will remain available for review.
Background check
Any offer will be contingent on completion of a job-related background check, conducted with the candidate’s authorization and at the firm’s expense.
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15.0 per week
Application Question(s):
- What interests you about BrownWhitt Law’s practice areas and this part-time legal support role? What would you hope to learn or contribute?
- A prospective client asks whether the firm can guarantee filing by Friday. You have no attorney confirmation. Write a brief response and describe your next internal step.
- An AI-generated memo includes a fact you cannot find in the intake materials. What would you do before submitting the draft to the attorney?
- Describe the system you use to track multiple deadlines, appointments, and follow-ups. How do you verify dates, set reminders, and flag uncertainty? Examples from legal or other administrative work are welcome.
