**Bookkeeping \& Finance Manager** **\*\*To be considered, please apply and fill out the online application form on our website at: https://simplehire.app/org/farm\-on\-central/jobs** **About the Role** The Farm on Central and its family of businesses are hiring a **Bookkeeping and Finance Manager** to own the books, payroll, and financial reporting across all of their companies. This is a part\-time role of 20\-30 hours per week. Local is preferred, but fully remote is possible. The right person is a full\-charge bookkeeper who is ready to run the finance function — not only keep it. You love clean books, you close on time, and you are comfortable working across several companies that move money between each other every week. Highly motivated candidates with less than optimal experience are welcome as long as they are willing to complete additional training quickly. **About The Farm on Central:** The Farm on Central is a certified organic, regenerative farm in Southwest Ohio. They grow vegetables, fruit, flowers, and plants, and run a farm store, bakery, CSA, u\-pick, and a wholesale plant nursery. There is a heavy emphasis on community, with farm activities and events through the season. About half of what is sold ships across the country, and together the businesses generate approximately $2M\+ in annual sales. You will work across a family of related companies: * **The Farm on Central (MS Innovation):** The farm, farm store, and e\-commerce, plus Midwest Steaming, which rents commercial steam equipment to organic growers * **In the Field Media:** The software and education company, home of Growing Farmers * **Mercede Solutions:** The payroll company that employs the team Financials and budgeting are coded in a custom software system, then reconciled in QuickBooks Online. Cash handling and paper invoices are collected and scanned by the on\-site team, so the role can be done remotely. **Bookkeeping and Month\-End Close:** * Review, categorize, and split transactions daily in the custom financial software * Reconcile every bank, credit card, loan, and merchant account in QuickBooks Online each month, for each company * Hand clean, fully coded books to the outside accountant for the monthly close, and take over more of the close as trained * Record and reconcile intercompany transfers so each company's books stand on their own * Keep financial records organized, digitized, and available for inspection **Payables, Receivables, and Cash:** * Enter vendor invoices, prepare the weekly AP report for owner approval, and pay approved bills electronically * Bill wholesale accounts weekly and follow up on past\-due balances * Work with suppliers to open and maintain credit accounts * Monitor balances across all accounts and move funds for AP, payroll, and operations as approved * Reconcile farm store deposits, cash drawers, and petty cash against Square and the bank * Process monthly affiliate, contractor, and local vendor payments **Reporting and Planning:** * Update the weekly finance report before the team meeting: sales by channel, customer count, average spend, labor ratios, payouts, and cash position * Maintain a rolling cash flow forecast and flag shortfalls before they happen — essential for a highly seasonal business * Report budget versus actual each month and give regular updates on YTD performance * Help the management team craft the year's budget from historical income and spending * Discuss strategy with the farm management team and bring your own recommendations **Payroll:** * Review team hours in Homebase and run biweekly payroll in ADP, including PTO and overtime approvals * Fund payroll through the inter\-company transfer and document it * Manage Ohio workers' compensation and unemployment responsibilities * Maintain proper paperwork for staff and contractors and send year\-end documents, including 1099s **Tax and Compliance:** * Prepare, file, and pay monthly sales tax using Square and Shopify sales and exemption data * Handle state, city, and federal filing requirements as they come due * Complete annual true\-up reports, license renewals, and memberships * Prepare year\-end books and work with the CPA on tax returns **Administration and Team Support:** * Keep the finance inboxes current and respond promptly to vendors, customers, and team * Support new\-hire onboarding paperwork, certifications, and the Homebase and ADP setup * Write and maintain SOPs for every recurring finance process, and improve them as the business grows * Work with the Farm Owner and management team on any team financial issues **What Success Looks Like — First 90 Days:** * Run the weekly cycle on your own: transactions, invoices, AP report, payments, and the weekly finance report * Run biweekly payroll and the monthly sales tax filing without help * Hand the outside accountant clean, fully coded books each month, with few questions coming back * Start learning reconciliations and the month\-end close alongside the outside accountant * Deliver a short list of what you would fix, automate, or stop doing **Compensation Package** * 20\-30 hours per week with a flexible schedule * Free access to farm\-grade/seconds farm products (local) * Discount on all items at the farmstand (local) **Requirements** * 1\+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, or equivalent training * Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Google Sheets * Access to reliable internet at home base with a well\-functioning computer system (preferably with 2 monitors) * Ability to attend Zoom meetings, including the weekly team call * Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner * Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast\-paced environment * Must be comfortable with technology and learning new software quickly * Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality * Must be able to pass a background check * Experience with retail and e\-commerce sales data **Additional Qualities \& Qualifications** * Month\-end close and reconciliation experience is a bonus * Experience keeping books for more than one company at once is a bonus, but not required * Experience running payroll or filing sales tax is a bonus, as is ADP and Ohio\-specific experience * Experience with Square and Shopify is a bonus, but not required * Self\-starter, self\-disciplined, and goal oriented, with the ability to set your own schedule and work with minimal supervision * Experience building efficient systems, documenting them, and making them better * Willing to speak up when the numbers say something the team may not want to hear * A team player with a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills * Trustworthy, dependable, and proactive * Passion and interest in small\-scale, low\-input, sustainable farming * Energetic nature and
